Product Description

Flat top chains, also called flat top chain plate, slat top chain, table top chain plate, it is an efficient chain plate used in the glass industry, food industry, wine and other industries for conveying. The flat top chains can be made of carbon steel, stainless steel or galvanized steel for high tensile strength and bearing load. Compared with balanced weave belt, it supplies a flat and smooth surface for high performance conveying. We can supply you all kinds of flat top chains in different specs and materials. We can customize the flat top chains, according to your equipment and requirements. Flat top chain plate types

Standard flat top chains are not curved, which is suitable for straight conveying machine. But in some workshops, the space is limited, so the conveying line will be made into an L shape, U shape or rectangular shape. So it need adjust the machine for smooth conveying. Here we can supply not only the standard flat top chains, but the side flex flat top chains.

–Straight running flat top chains. Straight flat top chains supply high loading capacity and smooth surface in the straight conveying machines. It is combined with several regular rectangular chain plates and high pins.

–Side flex flat top chains. Side flex flat top chains are suitable for flex machine, which maybe L shape, U shape or rectangular shape. The side flex flat top chains can ensure fast, smooth and steady conveying. Chain plates of side flex flat top chains have 2 types: flat edge chain plates and bevel edge chain plates.

–Flat edge chain plates. It combines with flat edge chain plates and hinge pins. Flat edge chain plates can complete side flex conveying through increase the clearance between high pins. In this way, the neighbor chain plate can permit a certain turning angle to achieve smooth side flex conveying. The flat edge chain plate can not only ensure the smooth and steady side flex conveying, but also the normal conveying for straight running.

–Bevel edge chain plates. The chain plates are made of chain plates with symmetrical bevel edges. The bevel edge can eliminate the interference during side flexing conveying and ensure smooth and high efficient conveying. Additionally, there has no any gap when it is used in the flex position. The angle of bevel plate and the pin clearance decide the turning radius.

What are the benefits of using a stainless steel flat top chain in specific environments?

Using a stainless steel flat top chain offers several benefits, especially in specific environments that demand high performance and durability. Here’s a more detailed explanation:

  • Corrosion Resistance: Stainless steel is highly resistant to corrosion, making it ideal for environments where the chain may be exposed to moisture, chemicals, or harsh substances. This corrosion resistance ensures a longer service life and reduces the need for frequent chain replacements.
  • Hygienic Properties: Stainless steel flat top chains have smooth surfaces and are easy to clean, making them suitable for use in industries with strict hygiene requirements, such as food processing, pharmaceutical, and medical device manufacturing.
  • High Strength: Stainless steel chains have excellent tensile strength, allowing them to handle heavy loads and high-impact applications. This strength is essential in industries like automotive, material handling, and industrial machinery.
  • Temperature Resistance: Stainless steel flat top chains can withstand extreme temperatures, both high and low, without losing their mechanical properties. This makes them suitable for use in environments with temperature variations, such as ovens, freezers, or outdoor applications.
  • Chemical Resistance: Stainless steel is resistant to many chemicals, acids, and alkalis, making it suitable for applications where the chain may come into contact with various substances, as seen in chemical processing or metal plating industries.
  • Longevity: The superior durability of stainless steel flat top chains results in a longer service life compared to chains made from other materials. This reduces downtime and maintenance costs, making them cost-effective in the long run.
  • Low Maintenance: Due to their corrosion resistance and durability, stainless steel flat top chains require minimal maintenance, leading to increased productivity and reduced maintenance-related expenses.
  • Non-Magnetic: Stainless steel chains are non-magnetic, which can be crucial in certain industries like electronics or medical equipment manufacturing, where magnetic interference must be minimized.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: In industries where appearance matters, stainless steel flat top chains offer an aesthetically pleasing look that can enhance the overall image of the equipment or machinery.

Overall, the benefits of using a stainless steel flat top chain make it an excellent choice for specific environments that demand corrosion resistance, high strength, temperature resistance, and hygienic properties. Their versatility and durability make them suitable for a wide range of industries, including food processing, pharmaceuticals, automotive, and chemical processing.

What are the noise and vibration characteristics of flat top chains?

The noise and vibration characteristics of flat top chains can vary depending on several factors, including the chain’s design, material, lubrication, and operating conditions. Here’s a more detailed explanation:

  • Noise Generation: Flat top chains with low-friction materials and precise articulation tend to produce less noise during operation. The flat top design reduces the rattling or clanking sounds that might occur with other types of conveyor chains. Noise can be further reduced by ensuring proper tensioning and alignment of the chain.
  • Vibration: Flat top chains are generally designed to run smoothly and maintain accurate tracking, which helps minimize vibration. However, excessive chain tension, misalignment, or worn sprockets can lead to increased vibration levels. Proper maintenance, lubrication, and regular inspection can prevent vibration issues.
  • Lubrication: Some flat top chains are designed to operate without external lubrication. These self-lubricating chains tend to produce less noise compared to chains that require lubrication. However, regular lubrication of chains that need it can also contribute to reducing noise levels.
  • Chain Speed: The chain’s speed can affect noise and vibration. Higher chain speeds can lead to increased noise levels due to the impact of the chain engaging with sprockets and the conveyor frame. Properly designed and tensioned systems can help mitigate these effects.
  • Operating Environment: The operating environment can impact the noise and vibration characteristics of flat top chains. For example, dusty or dirty environments may cause increased wear on the chain, leading to more noise and vibration. Proper cleaning and maintenance can address these issues.
  • Chain Material: The material used in flat top chains can influence noise and vibration levels. Chains made from low-friction materials or plastics tend to generate less noise and vibration compared to metal chains.
  • Tension and Alignment: Proper tensioning and alignment are essential to reduce noise and vibration in flat top chains. Tension should be adjusted to the manufacturer’s specifications to prevent excessive sagging or tightness, both of which can lead to increased noise and vibration.

Overall, flat top chains can be designed and maintained to operate with minimal noise and vibration. Proper tensioning, alignment, lubrication, and material selection play crucial roles in ensuring smooth and quiet operation, making flat top chains suitable for applications where noise reduction is important, such as in the food and beverage industry or other noise-sensitive environments.

Can flat top chains be repaired or must they be completely replaced?

Whether flat top chains can be repaired or must be completely replaced depends on the extent of the damage or wear they have incurred. Here’s a more detailed explanation:

Repair Possibilities:

  • Some minor issues with flat top chains, such as a few bent plates or damaged attachments, may be repairable. In such cases, specific components can be replaced, and the chain can be restored to its functional state.
  • Simple repairs, such as reattaching loose attachments or straightening bent plates, can be done relatively easily, but it requires expertise and precision to ensure the repaired chain operates correctly.
  • For plastic chains, minor repairs can sometimes be achieved by using adhesives or welding techniques suitable for the chain material. However, these repairs may not provide the same strength and durability as the original chain and should be carefully evaluated.

Complete Replacement:

  • If the flat top chain has significant wear, elongation, or damage that compromises its structural integrity, complete replacement is usually the safest and most practical option.
  • Extensive wear on the chain’s plates or pins can lead to chain elongation, which affects its precision and performance. In such cases, repairing the chain may not be sufficient to restore its functionality, and replacement is the better choice.
  • Chains that have undergone severe corrosion, especially in stainless steel chains, may experience reduced strength and integrity. In such cases, complete replacement is recommended to ensure reliable and safe operation.

Ultimately, the decision to repair or replace a flat top chain should be based on a thorough assessment by a qualified professional. Safety considerations, overall cost-effectiveness, and the potential for future issues should be carefully evaluated before deciding on the best course of action.

It’s important to note that regular maintenance and proper usage of flat top chains can help extend their service life and reduce the likelihood of major damage, making proactive maintenance essential for maximizing the chain’s longevity.
